The artist was born and lived most of his life in a small village in Holland. In his work he combines his interest for ‘timeless’ mythology and folklore with daily life of today. His main ongoing projects at the moment are wood carvings and animation.

My project at Ecoismi 2012 is to collect wood (and possible other natural materials) at the direct environment of the Borromeo island park to create sculptures which represent both the visitors and the park itself. The wood can be driftwood found along the rivier as well as waste from construction sites. Since a park is a place where nature and culture meet I like to use both aspects in the work. A visual bridge which shows the connection between people and their surrounding.
In my sculptures I combine the folkloric character of wood carving with daily life of our time. I am always interested in the mythology and folklore of places. It tells us something about the essence of those things that deeply matter to people. By combining this with images of our daily life it becomes more than just looking back to the past. It shows the ongoing life cycle and the language people use to understand and connect with it.
In the time we live in it also raises the question: Are we essentially still the same people as we were a thousand years ago? Do we still have the same basic needs?
